DotAsia Governance
DotAsia (.Asia) is a not-for-profit organization with a mandate to promote Internet development and adoption in the Asia Pacific community. DotAsia operates a sponsored top-level domain (sTLD) designated for the Asia-Pacific region, as a part of the core global Internet infrastructure. It is the first gTLD to be headquartered in Asia, and every “.Asia” domain registration contributes to Internet development for the Asia Pacific. DotAsia actively engages in the Internet Governance community, developing leaders from Asia to contribute to the multistakeholder model and a multilingual Internet.
DotKids (.KiDS) is also operated by DotAsia, to create a safer Internet space dedicated to children’s rights, education, and welfare. DotKids enforces strict, guided principles to prevent illegal or inappropriate content on .KiDS domains. Supported by global child advocacy groups, DotKids provides a “Virtual Sanctuary” focusing on safety. Discover DotKids here.

DotAsia is governed in part by a vibrant community of Members, which fall into one of two categories:
Sponsor Members are organizations located in the Pan-Asia and Asia-Pacific region—defined according to ICANN’s Asia/Australia/Pacific regional classifications—that manage and operate country code top-level domain (ccTLD) registries within that region.
Co-Sponsor Members are regional Internet, information technology, telecommunications, non-profit, NGO, or other relevant community organizations based in the Pan-Asia and Asia-Pacific region.

The Board of Directors oversees DotAsia’s governance, and is advised on policy matters by an Advisory Council, composed of one representative from each Co-Sponsor Member, along with additional industry and community experts appointed by the Board. This governance structure benefits from the direct involvement of numerous regional ccTLDs, contributing significant expertise in the operational and policy management of TLD registries across the Pan-Asia and Asia-Pacific region. In addition, representation from established Asia-Pacific Internet and information technology organizations ensures broad, relevant community input.
The DotAsia Strategic Plan is based on the DotAsia Core Values and Core Competence Framework, and the four tracks of DotAsia works: 1) Internet Governance & Community Engagement (IG), 2) .Asia Registry (RY), 3) Other DotAsia Works (CM), and 4) DotAsia Organisation & Governance (GO). The 2024-2027 Strategic Plan is the first formally adopted Strategic Plan for DotAsia.
The DotAsia Organisation is a multicultural team of staff working together around the world for the mission and vision of DotAsia.
Together, these elements create a balanced and robust governance framework that provides a strong foundation for a successful Asia-focused TLD registry.
